Q.6 What is Swadeshi Indology Conference?

While extensive and intensive studies of the heritage of every country are a natural concern of the respective countrymen, it is a paradox that Indian heritage is being studied too little by Indian scholars themselves, and rather extensively by Western academicians. This is a dangerous imbalance that must be rectified.

In order to nourish an indigenous Indology that naturally cares for the protection of its own cherished and valuable inheritance, a movement was started. The first step focused on conducting the purva-paksha i.e. studying the works of western Indologists. This was to be followed by the response – the Uttara Paksha.

The first Swadeshi Indology Conference was held at IIT Madras from 6th- 8th July 2016

Indology is the branch of study on India.  It was made popular by the British Raj, and continues to be a domain largely controlled by Westerners. This branch of study attempts to study India from the point of view of social science theories developed in the West, and we have come to realise, belatedly though, that the scholarship emanating from the Western universities regarding India are seriously misrepresentative of the lens that India applies for its own civilization. The effects of the theories propagated by Western Indologists have created and exacerbated fault lines within Indian society which is detrimental for the future unity and integrity of India. Therefore, to restore the civilizational lens and reclaim adhikar of the narrative about our own nation, we have started Swadeshi Indology (SI). SI draws from the age old debating traditions of purvapaksha and uttarapaksha. We use these approaches for understanding the theories propagated from the West and provide our own counters based on our traditional worldview.

The first ever Swadeshi Indology conference was held at IITM where the focus of attention were 4 problematic positions of Prof. Sheldon Pollock, Professor at Columbia University, with respect to our Sanskritic heritage. Selected papers from scholars were presented at the conference and the proceedings have been documented here and here.

Second Swadeshi Indology Conference (SI-2) is to be held in Delhi in Jan-Feb 2017

The call for papers for SI-2 is here: http://swadeshiindology.com/si-2-call-for-papers/

Q.7 What is HIST series?

HIST – History of Indian Science and Technology

India’s historical contributions to science and technology are considerable, but are not well known. India’s scientific heritage, besides its philosophical and cultural legacy, needs to be properly understood, in order to give its own people a better sense of their place in history.  HIST series is an attempt by Rajiv Malhotra to document the history of Indian science and technology in a systematic and rigorous manner.

There are many important ways by which this project differs from a few other attempts that might appear similar to a non-expert in this field: Infinity Foundation India considers it very important to distance itself from such discredited scholarship. This is why the subject series has been built on solid academic scholarship only, and not on wild extrapolations. To accomplish this, IFI’s project involves rigorous peer reviews of each manuscript. There is a high quality editorial board of international eminence. Scholars will only rely upon reference works that are very credible and have gone through rigorous peer reviews and due diligence.
