It is my pleasure to thank The Infinity Foundation, Inc. for its recent gift. Your dedication and generosity help Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, to continue its progress toward ever-greater achievements.

For the first time, Rutgers is among the top 20 public institutions of higher learning in the nation in private fund raising, ranking eighteenth for FY 2001. This is a tribute to the loyalty of alumni and friends and the steadfast partnership of corporations and foundations. Further evidence of the university's fiscal strength is the continuing success of the $500 million Rutgers Campaign: Creating the Future Today, which has
now surpassed the $400 million mark. These notable fund-raising accomplishments are critical in light of the current constrictions of the state budget.

Fund-raising success is important not for its own merits, but because it supports our ability to progress in academics, research, and service. Scholarship funds are essential to attracting the best and brightest students to Rutgers. More than
29,000 students applied for the 6,555 seats in the Class of 2005, an all-time record. Mean SAT scores for incoming freshmen continue to rise. Private gifts have made possible research in areas from brain chemistry and function to groundbreaking mathematical theory. Individual and corporate gifts will make it possible for the university to serve its constituencies in fields as diverse as business ethics, arts and culture, health, and many areas of the law.

For helping Rutgers to make a positive difference in the lives of our students and the communities we serve, both here and abroad, I extend to The Infinity Foundation, Inc. the gratitude of the Rutgers family.
